Moss or the Boxcar Children | The Great

The Great

Hey Gorgeous Readers!

I'm not sure if it's because it's nearing the end of July or because we just had our hottest summer days this week and I'm tired of hot leather car seats, but yesterday I thought about PSLs. Already. So when I did my daily read of Vogue (<3) online my eyes went straight to "Fall Jean Preview: Meet Next Season's Denim to Know Now".  The Great, the brand by Emily Current and Meritt Elliot, out of California recently released a denim line. But like their brand aesthetic its not quite like what we usually think of when we think of denim. It's quirky.

The Great has firmly established its aesthetic: a modern ode to off-duty gold miners, pioneer prairie princesses, and femme cattle rustlers—the birthplace of denim, if you think about it.

Their line is tomboyish and Current and Elliot say they are influenced by Tom Sawyer and the Boxcar Children. One of their main denim silhouettes includes a dropped-crotch and button fly. While the Japanese denim material sounds incredibly wearable- "tough and thick as selvedge, while feeling as deliciously soft and light as stretch skinnies", I'm not sure if I am completely sold on this new denim for the fall. Like Vogue contrasted, The Great is far from Kate Moss and Cindy Crawford denim.

Will this fall be the beginning of 'off-duty gold miner' denim rather than off-duty model? Leave me your opinion on The Great's denim in the comments.

Stay Fabulous,
xoxo Aimee

  1. Hmmm not too sure about that denim! Maybe I'm biased because I love the "off-duty model" look but I dont think this trend is for me...
